The Passing Away
We are called to responsibility
Since God is a God of order, it is His will that we organise our passing in every respect and create clarity beyond our earthly life.
In 1 Corinthians 4:1 we are taught that we are appointed as stewards of all that we have received from God. Stewardship and responsibility are inextricably linked. According to Mt 25:14-30, we will one day have to give an account before the Lord for what has been entrusted to us. Through our incarnation, we have all been given life as a gift. We are called to handle it responsibly in spirit, soul and body until our death.
The Realm of the Spirit
Here the question must be asked whether I am at peace with God and my fellow human beings and whether my life is in line with Colossians 3:1 "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek those things which are above ...".
The Realm of the Soul
This contains, among other things, the will that is to be applied in the following three areas:
- Will: Distribution of goods and money
- Instructions: David: 1 Kings 2:1-9; Jesus: John 19:27
- Burial: Joseph: Hebrews 11:22
The Physical Part
The body must not be classified as an 'appendage'. Because it was created by God just like the spirit and soul, it is of extraordinary importance. Jacob and Joseph, for example, gave instructions what to do with their bodies when they die (Genesis 50:5 + 25). With regard to the body, the important question of the type of burial also arises.
Arrangements regarding death
It is advisable to keep all important documents in one place and to inform a trusted person about them.
- Residence Permit / Family Register
- Will
- Living Will
- Curriculum Vitae
- Funeral arrangements (type of burial, responsible (church) parish)
- Arrangements of my funeral service (funeral text, songs/choruses/music, other items)
